'Patchouli, Papyrus, Star Anise, Amber'

Matt Black Glass with Cire Trudon Gold Embossed Label.

Mary Shelley was born Mary Wollstoncraft Godwin on 30 August 1797 in London. She was the daughter of the philosopher William Godwin and Mary Wollstoncraft the feminist writer and activist. On her mother's grave in 1814 Mary Godwin declared her love for the poet Percy Bysshe Shelley and later that year they eloped to the continent.

In the summer of 1816 in Geneva, Byron challenged the Shelleys to a competition suggesting they each write a ghost story. Byron and Shelley then dashed off trivial pieces. Mary, who had never written anything substantial before won the competition outright with a story that was to be better known than anything by Byron or Shelley. It was called 'Frankenstein'.
