Like her Greek counterpart, Artemis, Diana was the goddess of the hunt. The daughter of the Roman god Jupiter and his mistress Latona, Diana was born on the island of Delos with her twin brother Apollo, the god of light.
Although primarily associated with hunting, Diana was also revered as the goddess of the woods, children and childbirth, fertility, chastity, the moon, and wild animals. Her worshippers believed she had the power to talk to woodland animals and even control their movements and behaviour.
This beautiful piece is made from recomposed stone - alabaster, marble powder and resin.
